Stichting Tegen Kanker, MHU and Bluehealth Innovation Center (BHIC)  combined forces at Levensloop Genk 2017.

During 24 consecutive hours many friends, families and cancer fighters walked and ran to support people with cancers or to honour the ones they’ve lost. A total of 128 teams counting of 6724 participants were committed to finish and raise money for the Stichting Tegen Kanker fund. All teams together raised an overwhelming amount of € 270296!

Prior to and during the weekend all sorts activities (e.g. bake sales) were organized to raise this amount of money. To add something extra during the weekend, MHU monitored 5 teams for the entire 24 hours. MHU equipped the teams with a smartwatch and a smartphone to track their heart rate, current location, speed and distance. These parameters were monitored per runner per team, and also for the entire team, giving a nice overview of the total distance they ran or walked during those 24 hours. The 5 teams MHU monitored walked/ran over 625 km during the 24 hours, a distance that describes the great enthusiasm the teams had to finish.

This day was a success thanks to the support of Stichting Tegen Kanker, BHIC and Wara Genk. Additionally, we would like to thank the teams: Team Carlucci-Mertens & vrienden, Sledderlo Runners, IncuRunners, Hemodialyse ZOL and Kinepraktijk Grossard for their strong effort and their persistence.
