At the 27th and 28th of April, Hasselt University and Mobile Health Unit hosted the f-TALES Mobile Health workshop.

f-TALES stands for the Flanders Training Network Life Sciences and is a joint training initiative of the 5 Flemish universities (Free University of Brussels, Ghent University, Hasselt University, KU Leuven and University of Antwerp) that offers top class workshops open to doctoral (and postdoctoral) researchers. Mission of this brand new training forum is to organize workshops with world-renowned speakers on hot topics in the field of Life Sciences.

The two-day event hosted workshops about getting hands-on experience with innovative mHealth technologies and the application of smart algorithms, further students explored the legal, ethical and financial challenges of smart services like mHealth. Furthermore, many inspiring talks from researchers, medical doctors and patients on mHealth applications ranging from prototypes to applications already used in clinical practice.

The program included Keynote talks from Walter De Raedt from IMEC (specialist in wearable technology), Frederik Debong from mySugr, Magali Feys from Sherpa Law and Julien Penders from Bloom Life. More interesting talks were held by research/clinical specialist such as Prof. Dr. Raf Brouns (VUB), Prof. Dr. Wilfried Gyselaers (ZOL -UHasselt), Prof. dr. Dominique Hansen (Uhasselt), Dr. Asma Khalil (St George’s Hospital, University of London), Prof. dr. Annick Bogaerts (UAntwerpen; KU Leuven en UC Leuven-Limburg), Tom Braekeleirs (MIC Vlaanderen), Lars Grieten (FibriCheck) and Wolfgang Wauters (eHealth platform).

Also, entrepreneurship testimonials of the following start-up companies were presented at the fTales workshop: Ectosense, MoveUp and ByteFlies.

During the two-day workshop, we were encouraging people to become more ‘Mobile’ (active) and participate in the Walking Challenge organized by Heka Health!
