Industrial Engineers win a Cera Award for their Bachelor’s project ‘Voice Assistant’.
Two industrial engineers, Anouk Michiels & Bram Verstraeten (Hasselt University), performed their bachelor’s project with the Mobile Health Unit, in collaboration with the hospital Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg. The goal of their project was to develop a proof-of-concept of a Chatbot or voice assistant to answer easy questions of patients. Anouk & Bram were successful and developed a Chatbot capable of answers questions like ‘What is the password of the WiFi?’, ‘What are the opening hours of the cafeteria?’. In addition, they investigated the possibility of answering patient specific information such as ‘What is my next investigation?’, ‘Who is my treating physician?’. Because they encountered many interesting aspects (social, privacy, economic and technical), the opportunity arose to enter the Cera Award competition. The main driver was to reveal their competence to interact as technicians with patients and medical staff by applying to this award. This award also holds these properties as essential to win this award. And drumrolls please……. they WON!
We are very proud of these young students and would like to thank RVO-society and Cera for the opportunity. We would also like to thank the Faculty of Industrial Sciences for the availability of the students and the support provided.
